It’s Monday…and WHEW! I feel like I need a weekend from my weekend! But we made some MAJOR progress, and it feels great. We’ve been in our place for one month, and we still have boxes out waiting to be unpacked. I call this the “toddler effect”. But we put the little one down for bed on time and worked until 3:00 a.m. on Saturday morning to get a foothold on the craziness. It’s not completely done, but I’m pleased with the general look and can’t wait to tweak a few things as we go (and as our little budget fills back up).
Here is where we started…boxes, a rogue bookcase, and mess mess mess!
Over to the right a bit is the office area. We were making progress in this area, but we hit a stud and didn’t have a drill! Dagnabit! (Let me clarify… you’re thinking “she’s a DIY Weekend Warrior and she doesn’t have a drill?” Well, I do — and it’s nice, but we lost the battery charger in the move. ::sigh:: So we have a hopelessly dead drill. DIY Fail.” We’ll update you on this project later!
Finally we got some of the physical labor done and can work on the pretty things! But I have a picky eye and I wanted a ‘gently cascading, generally asymmetrical’ gallery on the dining room focal wall.
Peeking into the photo on the right… the boxes of books are waiting for us to put them up. We are optimistic, but we also know that there are some missing boxes…we just can’t seem to find them! Looks like we’ll be doing this process more than once!
Today’s Final look for the dining nook: books up, gallery up, and 6 more boxes to the dump! This IS a good weekend. So what is left to do?
- I will be adding a ribbon edge to the bookshelves for a finished look. Probably Velvet, but maybe grosgrain…and bronze nail head!
- The empty frame with the star in it will be a “living gallery” of art from the home. Maybe some embroidery from Lauren, some doodles from Jayden, some design sketches ..and some music from Marcus? This will have a coordinating ribbon and miniature clothespins.
- There is one empty frame, one photo to change, and one empty space for an object in the gallery. So, I need to shuffle through my 3, 000+ photos and choose something cute and breeze through some thrift stores on my lunch break to get this done!
Next on the list? The stairwell with Jayden’s tiny little handprints up and down the wall… and the organization of the office area!
Stay close, more to come!
